What made you choose a career in the industry?

It was my first job and I saw an advert for a Client Services Executive. I thought it was a good idea to get some client facing work experience, whilst deciding on a future career. I knew that Financial services is a broad industry so the skills I would learn would be transferable and open doors for me.

What advice would you give to others trying to get into the industry?

Never turn down an opportunity, especially when offered by a company that encourages you to evolve as an employee. Companies like that are rare and there is so much you can learn and skills you can grow. You may be starting at the beginning, but everyone does, and progression can be as fast as your growth allows, which is the exciting thing!

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learnt so far from working in the industry?

Say yes to every opportunity, project and qualification on offer. If you don’t try, you’ll never know if something is for you or not. Saying yes has shaped my career path. I’ve even won ‘Rising Star’ recognition in the industry; something I’m so proud of.

What are the things you love most about working in the industry?

From starting as a Client Services Executive, I have been incredibly lucky and encouraged to grow in any direction that worked for me.

From doing what I am now – giving the public advice on what insurance is needed (to best suit their personal situation) and passing my Financial qualifications – I can go on to do anything. Investments, pensions, banking, general insurance. How many other industries have that scope?

There is also a huge support network of women in my company and the industry as a whole that root for each other, which is really supportive and friendly. I’ve made great friends and future contacts as a result.
