When you join SES Water you’ll have an induction on your first day that will tell you more about the company, your benefits, your IT systems or any other essentials to help you settle in before being introduced to your team. COMMITTEES

Health, Safety and Wellbeing:
This committee looks after the health and wellbeing of our colleagues and aims to reduce incidents across the business. We recently won the Gold RoSPA award for health and safety!
We feed back to the business on actions that are needed and also receive updates and information to share with colleagues. Each department has a representative on this committee.

Environmental
This committee meets once a quarter to look at ways we can support the business in meeting our environmental pledges. Actions include reducing paper usage, water saving, fuel efficiencies and working with our production sites to improve Biodiversity. We have achieved the coveted Biodiversity Benchmark at two of our production sites and were also awarded the Waterwise Office mark for our water efficiency at our Redhill office.

D&I
This committee focusses on raises awareness and ensuring an inclusive environment for colleagues and customers. We plan a range of events throughout the year to support initiatives such as International Womens Day, Ramadan, Deaf Awareness Week, Pride and National Inclusion Week.
We actively promote inclusive leadership and ensure that our practices support every colleague feeling comfortable and supported to be themselves.

Sports and Social
We arrange events for the company to ensure that we have time for each other, to get to know people across the business and to have fun. Previous events have included bowling, wine tasting, theatre trips and Summer BBQ.

Secondments
We like to grow and develop our colleagues, so once you have settled in to the company and are accomplished within your role, you may wish to explore other areas of the business where your experience can be used, whilst developing new skills and knowledge to help you in your base role or enable a move to another position within the company.

Internal Recruitment
If you are looking for a permanent change of role within the company we encourage you to discuss it with your manager so that they can help you to develop the skills you need to be successful. We’d also recommend speaking the manager who is hiring so you understand the role in more detail. You won’t always be successful when interviewing internally, but you will have the opportunity to develop yourself so you can try again.

Training
Alongside the mandatory training and induction training you’ll receive there are various other internal and external training courses available to you, depending on the role you have. You may receive driver training for some of the specialised vehicles, or breathing apparatus training if you work with chemicals. You may have the opportunity to undertake training to become a people leader and you’ll always have the opportunity to try out new tasks within your role to develop your skills.

The Network department consists of four main disciplines:

Network operations: plan and implement operational activities associated with the distribution network in order to ensure a reliable and secure supply of water to customers through the inspectorate.

Leakage & asset management: monitor and detect leakage and plan remedial works in order for the Company to meet its regulatory target.

Water resources & efficiency: manage water resources and drought planning and plan and implement the promotion of water efficiency in accordance with the company’s regulatory target.

Network services: organise and carry out the administration of street works notices to enable excavations and other works to be carried out in the public highway.

Production
The production department is responsible for:

The abstraction of raw water from various borehole, spring or surface sources
Treating that water to conform with drinking water quality regulations
Pumping water to service reservoirs
Ensuring sufficient quantities of water are available and of suitable quality to meet the demands of our customers and regulatory requirements
Conservation, recreation and general environmental activities
Estate management and commercial leasing of sites

Jobs in this area include – treatment works manager, mechanical engineer, civil engineer, M&E technician, plant operator, outside maintenance, electrical technician, systems engineer

Retail services
The retail services department responds to all contacts from household customers in our supply area. Functions include:

Generation and distribution of bills
Collection of payments and management of debtors
Responding to enquiries about water supply
Handling applications for new water meters and taking readings
Performance monitoring
Service development and improvement

Jobs in this area include – customer relations advisor, meter reader, affordability and collections advisor, customer liaison officer, team leader, business analyst, resource planning manager

Quality and compliance
The quality and compliance department includes the laboratory, sampling team and process team as well as health and safety and compliance and assurance. Their responsibilities are:

Providing an analytical and technical advisory service for the company in matters relating to water quality and treatment

Compliance and assurance

Jobs in this area include – include water quality scientist, catchment & water quality scientist, water quality sampler, sampling team leader/manager, health safety & security manager, compliance manager

Corporate services
The corporate services department’s function is to provide a range of services aimed at supporting the business:

Management of the non-operational property portfolio
Vehicle services
Administration and group insurance
Procurement and fleet management

Jobs in this area include – facilities manager, facilities co-ordinator, administration, claims advisor, personal assistant, procurement specialist, fleet services manager, senior mechanic, vehicle maintenance technician

HR
The HR department encompasses learning and development, payroll and human resources. HR includes recruitment, management of our benefits such as pension, life cover, health and employee assistance programme and annual employee engagement survey. Learning and development co-ordinates the annual performance review process, identifies training needs and organises workshops, eLearning and on job training Payroll processes both pensioner and employee monthly payrolls.

Comms

The Communication department create all the materials and information about our strategy, services and results for customers and the internal team e.g. website content, social media posts, business reports, promotional material and public relations ’ The department is also responsible for running the Industrial Cadets programme and educational tours for schools

Finance
The Finance department are responsible for the following:

Preparation of financial statements for each business
Preparation of management accounts and the monitoring of budgets
Company secretarial and corporate governance
Maintenance of the fixed asset ledger
Banking, treasury and cashiering
Maintenance of the purchase, sales and works ledgers

Jobs in this area include – financial controller, sales and purchase ledger clerk, cash clerk, financial analyst, management accountant, economic regulation

IT
The IT department’s responsibility is to manage the IT, telephony and building facilities for the business:

Delivery of IT support across the business led by the IT Support Manager
IT project management and delivery, maintaining and renewing assets and implementing improved technology
Building infrastructure and operational support
Innovation – driving innovative ideas and practices across the business, including those without an IT component.
