London Gatwick can now progress with the £2.2bn Northern Runway Project, following a Court of Appeal decision to reject the legal challenges to the planning permission.
The Northern Runway project will deliver significant business, tourism and trade benefits for the UK including 14,000 new jobs, a £1bn boost to the economy every year and a comprehensive employment, skills and business strategy designed to bring maximum benefits to local people and the Gatwick region.
The northern standby runway will be moved 12m north, enabling it to operate simultaneously with the airport’s main runway The privately financed development also includes new taxiways, aircraft stands and terminal facilities, alongside improvements to local roads. Gatwick expects the runway to enter routine use around 2030.
