About the Business
Shepherd’s Cask delivers immersive, story-driven whisky tasting experiences across Surrey, Sussex and the South East. Each event is carefully curated to guide guests through Scotland’s whisky regions, blending storytelling, sensory exploration and a relaxed, social atmosphere.
The tastings are designed to be inclusive and engaging, whether for small private groups, corporate clients, or event venues looking for something unique. It’s more than just whisky; it’s about slowing down, connecting, and discovering something new together.
The Spark Behind the Business
Whisky has always been more than just a drink to me, it’s a craft, a heritage, and a way of bringing people together. After earning my Whisky Tasting Certificate from the Edinburgh Whisky Academy, I saw a gap: whisky education often felt exclusive or intimidating. I wanted to change that.
Shepherd’s Cask was born from a simple idea, that whisky should be shared, discussed and enjoyed. My goal was to create experiences that help people reconnect, slow down, and discover something new together. It’s about storytelling, flavour, and community not snobbery.
What I Love Most About Running My Business
It’s the reactions. Watching someone discover a flavour they love, laugh with friends, and say “I actually get whisky now”, or even better, “I actually like whisky now!” is incredibly rewarding.
Every event is unique. I get to combine education, hospitality and storytelling in a way that never feels like work. Meeting people who remind me why I started, and seeing genuine connections form over a dram, is the best part of what I do.
Support That Made a Difference
The Reigate & Banstead Entrepreneur Academy was a game-changer. It gave me the practical tools and confidence to take my idea seriously. Being surrounded by others on the same journey reminded me I wasn’t alone, the connections I made have been invaluable.
The Business Support Grant helped me get started with professional equipment, branded materials and my first run of events. It allowed me to elevate my setup and make it truly reflect my brand. The process was smooth, and the team was incredibly supportive, it was a joy to work with them.
Beyond that, local business networks and online communities have been a great source of advice. When people see your passion is genuine, they’re often generous with their knowledge.
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Don’t wait for permission, just start. Every big success begins with someone taking that first, imperfect step. You won’t have all the answers at the beginning, but if you believe in what you’re creating, you’ll find them along the way.
Building Shepherd’s Cask taught me that passion is contagious. When people see you care, they rally behind you, customers, friends, even strangers.
So back yourself. Learn, adapt, keep showing up. Turn that “one day” idea into day one. Because there’s nothing quite like standing in front of a room full of people, seeing your idea come to life and thinking — I built this.
